Doors Open at 2:30 p.m. Film Screening at 3:00 p.m. Expert Panel Discussion at 4 p.m. Stay for the Refreshments afterwards! Tickets: Adults: $35 ($25 is tax-deductible) & Students: $10. To buy your tickets, visit our website and buy online with PayPal. lwvfallschurch.org/Event.html Pay 2 Play follows film maker John Ennis's quest to find a way out from under the Pay 2 Play System, defined by Ennis as the cycle through which politicians reward their donors with even larger sums from the federal treasury--through contracts, jobs, tax cuts and deregulation. Ennis has recognized that by Election Day, so much has already happened to decide which candidates are on the ballot, the result is surprisingly undemocratic. The film features interviews with Robert Reich, Lawrence Lessig, Marianne Williamson, Jack Abramoff, Bob Edgar and many more. To learn more about the film, check out their website--http://www.pay2play.tv/

Sips & Civility: Game Night!

February 21, 2017, 7:30pm - February 21, 2017, 9:30pm

Join people from NoVA and beyond to talk about issues that matter. We are intentional about civil discourse and its importance in a healthy democracy. This month let's make time for us. These past weeks we are going strong with our advocacy calls, postcards, letters, and petition signatures, so lets celebrate our vigilance and determination in making democracy work in VA and beyond. Let's have our first Game Night! If you have a game that is civics themed, bring it. We'll be playing (just a few options to choose from): American Trivia Timeline--Diversity and American History Loaded Questions Political Party (yes this is nonpartisan) 🙂 Join us for an old school board game night that will be both fun and civil. You'll feel like you're doing school work and creating new networks. All while making democracy work for all!

Conflict in the South China Sea: Great Decisions

February 23, 2017, 2:30pm - February 23, 2017, 4:00pm

Thursday, February 23: Conflict in the South China Sea Jeffrey Key, Ph.D., Associate Professor of International Affairs, Sweet Briar College The South China Sea is a locus of competing territorial claims, and China its most vocal claimant. Beijing’s interest has intensified disputes with other countries in the region in recent years, especially since China has increased its naval presence. Despite rising international pressure, including an unfavorable ruling by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, China staunchly defends its policies in the region. Preventing tensions from boiling over is a matter of careful diplomacy. If Lynchburg Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather, the Great Decisions lecture for that day will be canceled and rescheduled for Thursday, March 23 if possible. The Lynchburg Branch of the AAUW, the League of Women Voters of Lynchburg, the YWCA of Central Virginia, and the Lynchburg Public Library are the sponsors of the lectures.

You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love." -Martin Luther King, Jr. ...
