Christiansburg Planning Commission Meeting is scheduled to meet at 5:30pm on Monday August 23rd. The items on the menu, any of which is sure to create indigestion for someone is:
- 1) Council’s intention to adopt an ordinance in regards to a rezoning request by Jeffrey C. and Teresa W. Stump for property located at 400 Starlight Drive (tax parcels 529 – ((A)) – 16 and 17) from R-2 Two-Family Residential to B-3 General Business. The property contains 0.596 acres and is scheduled as Residential in the Future Land Use Map of the Christiansburg Comprehensive Plan. The public hearing is set for September 21, 2010.
- 2) Consideration of amendment to Chapter 26 “Subdivisions” and Chapter 30 “Zoning” of the Christiansburg Town Code in regards to sidewalk requirements and open spacerequirements in Residential Districts.
- 3) Consideration of amendment to Chapter 30 “Zoning” of the Christiansburg Town Code inregards to provisions for a Historic District Overlay.
Item #1 is new territory while #2 and #3 have been stuck in the digestive process for MONTHS!
For a review of #2 see http://www.depotdazed.com/depotdazed/so-much-campaign-issues-post-election-mutation.aspx
For a review of #3 see http://www.thinkchristiansburg.com/confoundedinchristiansburg/historically-slow.aspx
What I have found most entertaining concerning items 2 and 3 is the virtual total absence of any information to the public on the wonderful Town website. How a device such as a website can be used so ineffectually is just amazing. What little information is available is so deeply embedded as to be unobtainable to the public.
At the end of the last Town Council meeting, I requested (written FOIA request) an electronic copy of the log that the Town is required to keep for all Conditional Use Permits. I have not received that document yet although I do know that it is kept in electronic form. I will be posting it to the myvaresources.com website as soon as it is provided to me. Many people have asked me about this document and I hope to have it within the 5 day time frame provided by State Code. We will just have to wait and see. Anyway, you will have access as soon as I do.
