Ah, the benefits of having CSpan on in the background while working. (Doesn’t everyone do that?)
I glance up a while ago and noticed a website link. Needing a break from crunching data, I wandered over. Oh…..Ahhhhhh…yes, I like this. It is a website for the Office of Management and Budget from the White House. (Wow! I can’t believe Mississippi is getting money for that. Oh, my and Kentucky, who woulda thought that….sorry…back to topic.)
On the website is a list of all the states with links to state specific reports on what the budget means for the people of that state.
Now, just because the money gets to the state, that doesn’t mean it will get to your immediate area. Many of the decisions of where that money will go within the state is up to state elected officials. If you take the time to see what money is coming to your state for what types of projects, you can then contact your state officials to start pushing to get the money where you believe it needs to be.
Remember, it is often the ‘squeeky wheel’ that gets the grease. If only 1% of people express their opinions and two different areas are involved, one with 10,000 people and one with 100,000 people, it will be the group with the largest number of people speaking up and speaking out who get those funds. This makes it all the more important for those people in more rural areas and with less dense populations to get involved.
Find out how you can contact your state level elected officials at USA.gov. Then start calling, writing, emails, or arrive by the car and bus loads at their doors and tell them what YOU, their employeers want! I guarantee you if you don’t do it the Special Interest groups will. Heck! They will anyway, but no matter how big the corporation, I’ve yet to see a corporation step into that voting booth.
What a grand display of open government and empowering citizens!!! This is good government in action.
