Reasons to be active in Government and to Vote.

When is the last time you attended a public meeting when a topic did not specifically affect you. When is the last time you did some research before you decided who you wanted to vote for? When is the last time that you went out and voted EVEN when there really wasn’t some issue going on that affect you directly?

Well, here’s a reminded of why all of those are things you might want to consider doing:

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came…

“First they came …” is a popular poem attributed to Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the inactivity of German intellectuals following the Nazi rise to power and the purging of their chosen targets, group after group. In Niemöller’s first utterance of it, in a January 6, 1946 speech before representatives of the Confessing Church in Frankfurt, it went (in German):[1]

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Now, when is the next time you will take the time to attend a government meeting, research who the candidates are and what they propose to do, or vote even if you do not see something immediately posing a issue directly related to you?

When is the next time that you will allow someone else have their concerns or issues affecting them, walked over or ignored by government because you didn’t speak up?

Sitting back and staying quiet simply because something does not affect you is the easy way out. But at some point down the road, how will you feel when no one stands with you when the issue concerns you?

Whatever happens to someone else could happen to you on another day!
