I am sure many of you remember Jim Dorsett. A resident of Christiansburg, he was always willing to discuss problems and politics with most anyone. He was one of the few people that I have ever seen eye-to-eye with on the main issue concerning government from the onset. Jim was quick to tell you that government serves the people.
Over the years, Jim was involved with tourism development, downtown improvement, historic preservation, Habitat for Humanity, Literacy Volunteers, and a host of other groups around town, the region, and nationally. In particular, he was involved with the Presbyterian Church in their outreach activities.
Unfortunately, many of the issues that he tried to help with involving the Town of Christiansburg remain on the table for discussion and/or study years and even decades after his work on them.
Meghan carried on that tradition when, as a the comprehensive planner for Montgomery County, she involved a record number of people and agencies in the development of the County’s Comprehensive Plan.
Well, it looks like his daughter, Meghan Dorsett, is going to pick up where here father left off with the Town of Christiansburg. Meghan Dorsett is running for Mayor. Meghan, like her father, believes that is is people that make a community.
Meghan is currently working on a website where you will be able to read her positions on various issues and where you can communicate with her through email and blog. Hearing from you, the citizens of the Town, is where good government begins.
Unfortunately, Meghan has never blogged before so I will have to give her a crash course so it may take a few days. Once it is ready you will be able to find all of that information at dorsettformayor.com. The site is currently under construction so it will be a few days before you find information there. I will give an update here when it is live.

How exciting! Great article in the News Messenger today.
I didn’t see it until about 9pm tonight. It was good and very thorough. Meghan has a lot of experience, a lot of good ideas, and the will to make things happen. One of her strongest points is her experience with finding funding. Grants could accomplish a lot of great things, but you have to know where to find the money and how to jump through the hoops to get it. She does. She also has a proven track record of making sure that people are informed and have an opportunity to be involved. I’ll pass your words on to her!
Very proud of you! As you well know Meghan, my father Charles ” Gene” Reed thought the world of you and was good friends with your dad. Both of our fathers are smiling upon you from heaven! Keep up the good work.
I’ll be sure to pass the word on to Meghan. I know that Jim spoke highly of your dad. They were quite the team. Thanks, Carol
Such good news! Can’t wait to start spreading the word…
I can’t contain my excitement…Go Girl
