In all the excitement of elections, some of the greatest heroes in the whole process are often overlooked. I want to take a moment now to thank all of the wonderful people who serve as Officers of Election. These are the people who check information, help you to understand the equipment, and answer every question you have about the election process.
Overview of the Election Process (role of poll workers is explained)
We only see them on election day (unless they happen to be someone we know in daily life). When you go in to vote this May 6th (and every other election in the future), please take a moment to smile and say hello (and perhaps give a “thank you for a job well done”). These individuals have a very difficult task to perform, and they perform it with professionalism, grace, and dignity.
We hear horror stories about Officers of Election in other areas and problems that occur, but what we have here in Montgomery County is a group of citizens who take pride in their jobs, enjoy helping people, understand the importance of voting, and are of the highest integrity.
My thanks and respect goes out to each of you.
There is always a greater need for Officers of Election than the number of people willing to do the job! If you are a citizen who is interested in being a part of preserving the integrity of the election process, enjoy educating and helping people, and have a little bit of time on your hands, consider joining this group of citizens!
